Chelsea are working on a ₤ 15million deal for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and could make their move before the weekend, according to reports.
The Premier League champions attempted to sign the 24-year-old midfielder in the summertime, in a deal worth around ₤ 35million, but he wound up staying at Goodison Park to as he recovers from a hamstring surgery.
Barkley rejected a new contract from the Merseyside club last season and informed previous manager Ronald Koeman he wished to leave for a brand-new challenge.
He runs out contract at the end of the season and Toffees manager Sam Allardyce confessed on Thursday the club are ‘resigned to losing him’.
It implies he will be readily available free of charge in the summer but, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are willing to pay to sign him now with fellow Londoners Tottenham also interested.
The Blues have reportedly re-opened talks over a move for Barkley, but Everton are yet to concur.
They will seek to maximise the rate of their homegrown talent, who joined the academy as an 11-year-old and has made more than 150 first-team appearances, but ₤ 15m appears to be a generous offer for a player they could lose for nothing in a couple of months.
